"Monday morning song"
If I could push aside the duvet
you know I surely would
The cold stains the air around
my bare feet hiding from the bare ground
I search for a tee shirt that's clean
in a puddle of cloth and jeans
music erupts on the clock radio
My hungry cat lifts its head to meow
Which button switches this thing off
a sombre voice ... tells me
thousands upon thousands have died somewhere
then the weatherman promises more rain
yeah, ... more rain
next door there's an argument brewing
doors slamming, loud steps on the stairs
our houses shake together, then a car starts
I smell some coffee and burnt toast
sounds of cupboards closing
You have tossled hair
you've my favourite shirt on
And I know I'm smiling
